Privacy Policy
I want you to know what happens to your information when you visit this site, so here it is in plain language rather than legal boilerplate. If anything here doesn't fully answer your question, reach out at mjmurray@colejacobsbooks.com.
How this site works, generally
This website is hosted by Squarespace. Squarespace collects some personal information automatically when you visit, including your browser, network, and device information, the web pages you visited before arriving here, the pages you view while you're here, and your IP address. Squarespace needs this to run the site and to protect and improve its own platform. You can read more about how Squarespace uses this information in their own privacy policy.
Analytics
This site also uses this information to power site analytics, so I can see general traffic and activity, things like which pages get visited, how people navigate the site, and what content resonates. This may include details like clicks, internal links, pages visited, scrolling, searches, and timestamps. I use this the way most authors do, to understand what readers are actually interested in, not to track anyone individually.
Cookies
This site uses cookies and similar small files that download to your device when you visit. Some cookies are necessary and required, they let Squarespace securely serve this website to you. Others are analytics and performance cookies, used only after you acknowledge the cookie banner, which help me understand site traffic and activity as described above.
Newsletter signups
When you sign up for my Readers Club newsletter, you're using MailerLite's own signup form embedded on this site. Your email address goes directly to MailerLite, the platform I use to send weekly updates, book news, and behind-the-scenes stories. I use your email for that purpose only. I don't sell or share subscriber information with third parties. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every newsletter email, or by emailing me directly if you'd like your information removed entirely.
Comments and likes
Some blog posts on this site allow comments and likes. If you leave a comment, this site collects your name, which is displayed publicly with your comment, and optionally your email address and website URL, which are not displayed publicly. If you like a post, the site collects some browser, network, and device information along with your IP address, mainly to prevent the same like being counted twice in one visit.
Share buttons
Some pages and posts include share buttons, so you can share content to services like Facebook or other platforms. If you use one of these buttons, that third-party service may receive some of your information, including browser, network, and device details, your IP address, and details about the content you shared.
Your choices
You can decline non-essential cookies through the cookie banner when you first visit. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time. If you'd like any of your information removed from my systems, email me and I'll take care of it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, I'll update the date below.
